Bog Mat Hire Melbourne

Built for Wet, Muddy and Waterlogged Ground

1100 x 2440mm panel / 12.7mm thickness / 40kg per mat / 50T* load rated / Connectors available / Fast turnaround

*Rated up to 50 tonnes on hard, flat ground. On wet or boggy ground, real-world capacity sits well below this figure – designed for lighter-duty use in these conditions.

A bog mat exists to solve one specific problem: a vehicle tearing up soft ground. Wet grass, mud, waterlogged ground after a run of Melbourne rain, a site access track that turns to soup every time it’s used. Lay bog mats down first and the vehicle drives across a more stable, load-bearing surface instead of sinking its wheels into whatever’s underneath.

The Same Mat, Built for Wet Ground

Our bog mats are the same black HDPE panel as our general track mats: 1100mm x 2440mm, 12.7mm board thickness, 5mm textured surface bonded to both sides, 22.7mm overall thickness, 40kg per mat, rated up to 50 tonnes on hard, flat ground. What changes is how they’re used, and worth knowing here especially: that 50-tonne load rating figure assumes ideal, hard, flat conditions. Wet, boggy ground is about as far from that as it gets, so real-world capacity on a genuinely saturated site will sit well below the rated maximum. Our mats are designed for lighter duty use in boggy conditions, not heavy duty use. On wet or boggy ground, the textured surface matters even more, since it’s what stops a loaded vehicle’s tyres from spinning out on a slick, saturated panel the way they would on bare mud.

We move and store the mats on forkliftable transport stillages holding up to 45 mats safely, which means we can get a large quantity on rigid trucks, reducing transport costs for our customers.

Metal Connectors for Unstable Ground

Wet, boggy ground is exactly where loose-laid mats are most likely to shift and gap under load. We stock HD metal connectors in 2-way and 4-way configurations that lock adjoining mats together, so a run across genuinely soft ground stays as one solid surface rather than a row of panels that can work themselves apart.

Connectors are an optional extra on top of the standard mat hire rate, priced according to how many joins your layout actually needs.

Delivery, Install and Removal

Bogged ground rarely waits for a convenient time. We deliver the mats, lay them out to suit your access route, and remove them once the ground has dried out or the job’s finished. If you’d rather collect the mats and handle it yourself, dry hire from our Melbourne warehouse is also available. If you have machinery on site to unload the mats, please specify this in your enquiry as this will reduce the cost of your overall quotation.

Dry Hire Rate

$20.00 + GSTper mat, per week

This is a flat rate. The same price applies whether you need the mats for a day or the full week, there’s no cheaper day rate to ask about. Connectors are quoted separately, get in touch with your quantity and dates and we’ll confirm pricing. Full-service delivery, installation and removal is priced per job based on your site, access route and quantity.

Where Bog Mats Get Used

Construction access tracks that turn to mud in winter. Farm and rural access after heavy rain. Utility and services work on saturated ground. Event and festival sites where a wet week has turned the vehicle route into a bog, including bump-in and bump-out runs for all-terrain forklifts. Anywhere a wheel needs to cross ground that’s already too wet to support it, that’s a bog mat job.

Bog Mat Hire Melbourne covers each of these scenarios, delivered, installed and removed, or available as dry hire from our warehouse.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between a bog mat and a track mat?

Nothing physical. It’s the same HDPE panel; “bog mat” is just the name used when the ground is wet, muddy or waterlogged rather than dry grass or hard ground. See our Track Mat Hire page for the general-purpose use case and full specifications.

Will the mats stop a vehicle getting bogged in mud?

That’s what they’re built for. The mat spreads the vehicle’s weight across a wide, load-bearing surface, which reduces the chance of tyres sinking into saturated ground. For genuinely soft, unstable ground we’d also recommend the metal connectors so the mats don’t shift apart under load. In boggy conditions, these mats are suited to lighter weight vehicles.

Do the mats need to be connected together, or can they be laid loose?

On dry, flat, low-traffic ground, loose-laid is usually fine. On wet or boggy ground carrying repeated vehicle movements, we recommend the 2-way and 4-way metal connectors to lock the run together and stop individual mats creeping apart. For longer duration hire periods, connectors are recommended.

Can you deliver at short notice if a site has suddenly turned to mud?

Yes. Fast turnaround may be possible due to unexpected weather conditions. Please call us directly on 0417 659 792.

How many mats will I need to cover my access track?

Each mat covers 1100mm x 2440mm (2.68 sqm per mat), so a straightforward way to estimate is to measure the length and width of the route, calculate the m² then divide by 2.68, then add a few extra for turning points and buffer. Send us your rough dimensions, delivery location and duration and we’ll work out a quantity and a quote.
